Jon Huntsman, the former governor, ambassador, presidential candidate from the Republican Party, is offered the post of US ambassador to Russia, reports Politico. 

 “It’s a bit bizarre because he was so anti-Trump last year,” said one source close to the administration,” Politico reports an anonymous White House source as saying. “But it’s also a smart choice, because he really knows his [stuff].”

According to Politico , Huntsman's family company operates in Russia, but he has little experience in US-Russian diplomacy. However, Huntsman was the ambassador to Singapore under George W. Bush. Relatively recently, he served as an ambassador to China under Barack Obama. At the moment, he heads the think tank Atlantic Council.
