On November 21, several cordons of Armenian and Russian armed border guards were placed along the road heading from Vayots Dzor to Ararat region of Armenia. Border guards together with police were checking passengers of all vehicles demanding passports, the Aravot newspaper writes. The drivers of mini buses were asked whether there were strange people among the passengers. A mini bus with an Aravot daily correspondent was stopped by police near the village of Surenavan. The policemen disclosed no details but one of the Russian border guards let out they were searching for a person.
Within recent 7-8 days the residents of Vayots Dzor region have been talking about alleged Turkish spies penetrating in Armenia. Rumors have it they intend to damage storage reservoirs and other strategically important objects. The Armenian National Security Service (NSS) claims there are no spies, but it is just training. However, yesterday NSS stated that 7 border crossers were arrested near Surenavan.
