Genocide threat should be minimized in the Caucasian region, in particular it refers to Nagorno-Karabakh, as such threat is real from Azerbaijan, Turkey’s partner. Argentinean scientist Leandro Despui said at the conference “The Crime of Genocide: Prevention, condemnation and elimination of consequences” held in Yerevan.

He stressed that recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the UN caused a great stir, as a result Diaspora-Motherland, Diaspora-Turkey, Diaspora- world relations have changed. This was followed by recognition of the Armenian Genocide by various countries which is conditioned by consistent struggle of the Armenian Diaspora for the Genocide affirmation.

According to him, recognition of the Armenian Genocide made it a precondition for Turkey’s joining the EU.

The expert expressed regret that attempts of many world powers to punish Armenian Genocide perpetrators failed. Even the Treaty of Sevres that was to restore territorial losses of the Armenian nation after Genocide was not implemented.
