The Yerevan Municipality should not apply such radical methods of implementing its decision to put an end to street trading, Armenian Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan told journalists February 2.

The Yerevan authorities should have informed the street traders in advance to enable them to arrange trade in the markets to earn their living.

"No doubt, there must be no street trading in Yerevan. However, the methods applied by the Yerevan Municipality are unacceptable. As regards consumers` rights, they will be violated as long as economic monopolies are reigning in the country," Harutyunyan said.
