At least 3 people were killed, the toll of those injured in Cairo reached 1,500, a source at an Egyptian emergency clinic reports.

Bursts of gunfire were heard between the supporters and opponents of President Hosni Mubarak in Tahrir Square in Cairo.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier,  supporters of President Hosni Mubarak, including some riding horses and camels and wielding whips, attacked protesters as  Egypt’s upheaval took a dangerous new turn. The two sides began throwing stones and bottles and sticks at each other.

Thousands of Egyptians demanded an end to President Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year rule. On February 1, Mubarak said he would not run for presidential elections when his term ends in September and promised critical constitutional reforms. However, the situation got strained after fights broke out between supporters and opponents of President Hosni Mubarak. Over 12 people were injured in unprecedented countrywide protests on Tuesday.
