A social riot caused the present developments in Egypt, which are hardly sponsored from the outside, Hayk Kocharyan, an expert for the Center of political and Cultural Research, told journalists.

Despite final countdown for Hosni Mubarak’s presidential career, his supporters are better prepared. “Whoever comes to power in Egypt, the following five years will be a period of overcoming the consequences of the current situation,” the expert said. Islamists` are unlikely to come to power in Egypt, he said. “Only 15 % of the population is supportive of Islamists,” H. Kocharyan said.

As regards the possible impact of the developments in Arab Africa on other regions, particularly on the South Caucasus, he said that unrest in one part of the world has impact on another part. In this context, he forecasts heightened political activity in Armenia.
