The reason for the confrontation between the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) is the pre-election race between the two, the political analyst Yervand Bozoyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
After Gagik Belglaryan’s resignation, the RPA has some problems in preparing for elections in Yerevan. A somewhat tense situation has developed within the party. The expert forecasts that the ruling party will not “live until” the next elections, and the PAP will run for Parliament by itself.
“I cannot make any specific forecasts about the Rule of Law party, as it is not a serious political factor. It may join the Republican Party at the elections,” Bozoyan said. He does not share the opinion that the second Armenian president Robert Kocharyan is behind the current situation in Armenia’s political arena. “I do not think so. As to PAP Chairman Gagik Tsarukyan’s statement that Robert Kocharyan might have become RPA leader if he had wished to, it was just statement of fact,” Bozoyan said.
