U.S. President Barack Obama made a recess appointment of Matthew Bryza as U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan through a number of Congress members expressed their concern over the possibility of such an appointment, Hrayr Karapetyan (Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun-ARF-D), the Chairman of the Committee in Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs, RA Parliament, told Armenian News-NEWS.am. According to him, some Congress members will raise the issue as they are concerned over the fact that, as one of the former co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Ambassador Matthew Bryza may use administrative levers.
"It is common knowledge that, before being appointed OSCE Minsk Group co-chair, Bryza was far from being consistent. He is famous for his contradictory statements and further repudiations, as well as eccentric behavior. So the Armenian lobby does not consider him an eligible candidate for the post of U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan," the MP said. Moreover, his wife is a Turk.
Karapetyan pointed out that the issue remains open. "Barack Obama`s decision was not a fair one," Karapetyan concluded.
