If a nation clearly set a task to self-determination, sooner or later the issue will be solved in its favor, Armenian political scientist Yervand Bozoyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am, commenting on Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir’s statement that he accepts the results of January’s referendum on the independence of the south.

“This fact will have a serious impact on similar processes in Middle East countries,” Bozoyan said.

Commenting on the question whether it refers to Nagorno-Karabakh and may serve as precedent for Karabakhi people, Bozoyan stressed Kosovo was also a precedent. “Kosovo served as a precedent and Sudan is the  subsequent link of this chain. This fact is the beginning of a certain process, which will eventually involve Karabakh as well,” the expert said.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, South Sudan become the world’s newest state on Monday after final results of its historic independence referendum showed that 98.83 percent had voted for secession.
