Canada and five Latin American countries are asking the International Criminal Court (ICC) to initiate an investigation into the President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, Reuters reported. 

In a statement issued during the 73rd UN General Assembly, the heads of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay and Canada have expressed suspicions that Maduro is guilty of crimes against humanity in using force to repress political opponents.

The seven-page letter have evidences gathered by international experts and organizations, and asked for investigation of crimes that have reportedly been committed after February 12, 2014.

This is the first appeal when a group of states complains to the ICC about some other country.  The court based in The Hague will have to decide whether the statement will become the reason for the investigation.
