President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan landed in Berlin, the Telegraph reported. 

Thousand people are expected to take part in protest actions to send a message to the Turkish leader.

Berlin downtown is partly closed in order to free space for several large demonstrations as well as to provide a security cordon around the office, the Bellevue Presidential Palace and the Adlon hotel, where Erdogan and his circle will stay.

Up to 20,000 people are expected to take to the streets of Berlin under the banner “Erdogan Not Welcome”.

During his three-day trip Erdogan will hold two meetings and a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He will also receive military honors at the Berlin Bellevue Palace, where on Friday evening he will be the honored guest of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at a state banquet.

Several opposition German politicians said they would boycott the state banquet.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will officially open a new central mosque in the western German city of Cologne on Saturday.
