YEREVAN. – Speaker of the Armenian parliament Ara Babloyan has “negative assessment” of Yelq faction leader’s statement on possibility to take people to the streets for the snap parliamentary elections.

“We have passed this state, now is time for the democratic course, that is consensus of political forces,” he told Armenian News-NEWS.am. “Armenia has showed its face to the entire world, surprised the world by its tolerance and commitment to democratic changes, and we should not retreat,” he said.

Speaking about the snap parliamentary elections, Babloyan said that he is committed to the action plan.

“At the moment, a group is working on amendments to the Electoral Code. They should be discussed with the public and other political parties. Only after all this can we set the date for the elections,” the speaker said.

As to the amendments to the Constitution raised by the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan to create mechanisms for the self-dissolution of the parliament, Babloyan noted that there are no concrete proposals so far.

“If there are concrete proposals on the necessary changes, they can be discussed as well,” he said.
