YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, has issued a message of condolences on the passing of legendary French Armenian singer Charles Aznavour.
“All mankind has lost one of the most sensitive spirits of the 20th century,” the message reads, in particular, the presidential staff public relations department informed. “Charles was the collective image of man.
“He has kindled so many hopes in the heart of millions, has eased so many pains.
“The Armenian, who was only physically outside the Homeland [Armenia], has departed from us; [but] the Homeland was in him, he—in the Homeland.
“A huge and flaming meteor has broken off from world and Armenian culture.”
