Ukraine sees guarantees of its security in friendly partnership with its neighbors and major global centers rather than as a member of any alliances, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Konstantin Grishchenko told a news conference in Yerevan, held jointly with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandian, as he answered a question concerning an impact Ukraine`s not being a member of any alliance may have in its membership in GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine Azerbaijan, Moldova).

European integration and admission to the European Union (EU) are Ukraine`s priority. However, the idea has been supported by 30% of the country`s population at the most. A democratic state cannot join any alliances without public support, the Ukrainian FM said.

"Clearly defined in a law adopted by the Supreme Rada, Ukraine`s foreign policy is become more efficient and predictable for Ukraine`s partners," Grishchenko said.

According to him, the Ukrainian President and Government succeeded in establishing partnership with Russia along with developing cooperation with European states and the EU.

"Ukraine has sufficient potential for implementing an active foreign policy aimed at consolidating security and stability on the European continent. In this context, the OSCE`s decision to appoint Ukraine OSCE chairing state is evidence of the authority our country enjoys among European states," the Ukrainian FM said.
