The French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel consider it important to work out a coordinated position of European member states in connection with the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, AFP reported.

The leaders “want to coordinate at a European level on sanctions”, the Elysee palace said after the two met on the sidelines of a Syria summit in Istanbul.

Macron and Merkel together with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan take part in the four-way summit on Syria held in Istanbul on Saturday.
