The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the weakest and most unprofessional branch of the Armenian Government, David Shahnazaryan, a member of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), told journalists as he commented on the current stage of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

According to him, Armenia does not adequately respond to Azerbaijan`s diplomatic steps. Evidence thereof is that the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process is going on within the CE Parliamentary Assembly (the subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh) and at the U.N rather than within the OSCE Minsk Group.

According to Shahnazaryan, Armenia should take advantage of Azerbaijan`s diplomatic blunders. Armenian diplomacy should draw the international community`s attention to the following facts: it was Azerbaijan that unleashed the war and was later forced to sign a ceasefire agreement. "Moreover, Azerbaijan failed to meet Resolution 4 of the U.N. Security Council, following a military way," Shahnazaryan said.

With respect to the PACE subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh, he said that, despite the Armenian delegation`s failure, the subcommittee`s resumed its activities, which was actually one more diplomatic failure of Armenia.

"With the new regional tension and Turkey`s activity considered, socio-economic and external threats are likely to create a grave situation for us," Shahnazaryan said. He added that a new war is more likely now than progress in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
