Initiative of Georgia and Turkey to create a platform called “United Caucasus” sounds like a political machination, MP Larisa Alaverdyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am. According to her, implementation mechanisms of this initiative are obscure taking into account existing regional conflicts.
Head of the Heritage parliamentary group also stressed that it is a response to Russia for its relations with Armenia. “As to Turkey, the country is trying to presents itself as a regional power putting forwards siuch an initiative,” she noted. Alaverdyan also stressed that Turkey’s move is a response to the EU policy.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu have recently discussed creation of “United Caucasus” program. According to Saakashvili, border opening is a crucial point for the people of Caucasus, whereas Georgia can become an economic link for the Center Asia and Turkey.
