At today’s meeting Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and newly appointed U.S. Ambassador discussed possible terrorist threat, American diplomat told the Azerbaijani journalists.
The meeting was held in friendly atmosphere, he said, adding they will not disclose a source providing information about terror threat. “However, as we reiterate alert of terror threat the issue remains serious,” Bryza said.
Earlier the U.S. State Department twice warned Americans of a terrorist threat to Western targets in Azerbaijan and urged the U.S. citizens to be vigilant in the oil-rich former Soviet republic. According to a security alert by the U.S. Embassy in Baku, there was a “potential for attacks for U.S. citizens in Azerbaijan”, the statement says. The UK foreign office also issued a similar statement warning its citizens of a terrorist threat in Azerbaijan.
Spokesperson for the Azerbaijani National Security Ministry Arif Babayev in fact confirmed there is a terrorist threat in the country.
