A demonstration by the so-called “yellow vest” movement in Paris erupted in violence and widespread vandalism on Saturday that left 130 people injured and resulted in more than 3 million euros ($3.4 million) in damage, news.vice.com reported. 

According to President of the Center for National Monuments Philippe Belaval, the damage of Arc de Triomphe is several hundred thousand euros, even a million, said Philippe Belaval-Sunday in the daily Le Figaro. He added that the monument would remain closed to the public for a few days.

As reported earlier, the protests have been unfolded since November 17 against fuel price rises. Over 100 thousand people were participating in protests.

French President Emmanuel Macron has already said that the authorities understand the concerns of people, but will not change course. According to him, there are plans to increase the cost of renewable energy and reduce the share of atomic energy by 50% by 2035.
