The People’s Party will push for early presidential elections during a rally scheduled for February 28, party’s leader Tigran Karapetyan said.

Speaking at party’s youth congress, Tigran Karapetyan stressed rallies will be held in four districts. He also stressed the government has partially met party’s requirements presented in a February 15 ultimatum. If the authorities ignore party’s ultimatum, they will push for early presidential elections during the February 28 rally. According to him, around 100,000 people will participate in a protest action.

However, the police say only 400-500 people participated in the February 15 congress.

The ultimatum demands release of political prisoners, favorable conditions for young people to get mortgages, improvement of banking system and other issues.

The People’s Party is headed by Tigran Karapetyan, owner of the ALM media holding. The party is not represented in the parliament. Tigran Karapetyan is a 2008 presidential candidate. His ALM TV was denied a broadcasting license last December and went off the air in January.
