Armenian Foreign Ministry is verifying information whether there are Armenian citizens in Libya, Spokesman for Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

At the moment the Armenian foreign office is closely cooperating with embassies in the Middle East.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported previously, anti-government protests in Libya have spread to country for several days. According to some reports, Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi left the country and fled to Venezuela. Over 200 people have reportedly been killed by government troops and mercenaries in a bloody crackdown in the country.

Gaddafi’s son Seif al-Islam, in the regime’s first comments on the six days of demonstrations, warned the protesters that they risked igniting a civil war in which Libya’s oil wealth “will be burned.”

According to New York-based Human Rights Watch, the estimated death toll in Libya’s violence between security forces and protesters is at least 233. The authorities confirmed officially the deaths of 82 people.
