The business activity index reached 7.7% in Armenia this January, reported the Statistical Service of Armenia.
From this year, the Statistical Service will not report the monthly GDP index any more. It will from now on report business activity index, which will not allow added value to be appraised.

January is, as a rule, the most passive month. New Year holidays and intervals in construction projects accounts for that.

The business activity index was twice as high this January as last December.

The agricultural sector is registering further decline - 2.5% this January as compared with last January. It may be the result of decline in cattle-breeding, or, more probably, decrease in the number of hothouses. Higher gas prices created grave financial problems for hothouses, and some of them were dismantled in Charentsavan and Shirak.

Other industries registered growth, and trade volume has remained unchanged.

The construction sector registered 0.9% growth this January against last January, the services sector registered 24.3% growth and the industrial sector 5.7% growth.

This January, exports of goods and services totaled U.S. $66 million (a 21.3% annual increase), imports U.S. $255 million (a 1.7% decrease).
