The Eurasian Economic Union is starting to become more politicized. This is what President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko declared, reports BELTA.
“To be honest, I don’t have high hopes for the Eurasian Economic Union. There is too much tension and discord. The economic union is starting to become more politicized, and this is definitely unacceptable,” Lukashenko said.
Lukashenko focused on the tremendous amount of seizures in trade relations and lack of implementation of the decisions adopted within the scope of the EEU.
According to the President of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have unsettled disputes, and Russia and Belarus also have problems. Many consignments of commodities have been removed from the trade regime, and this primarily concerns oil and gas.
Talking about the future chairmanship of Belarus within the EEU, Lukashenko noted that he didn't really have any hope for a breakthrough since all decisions are adopted by consensus.
“Several EEU member states are extremely linked to the centers of another force and are oriented towards other states and unions. There are many problems. So, we need to understand that our actions will exclusively be in accordance with the concluded contracts and agreements,” Lukashenko said.
