On 4 March, President of Armenia’s National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received Director General of the Directorate for Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Christos Giakoumopoulos.
Greeting the guest, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that Armenia attaches great importance to the cooperation with the Council of Europe, as well as the ongoing support of the organization in the democratization process of our country. The President of the National Assembly added that there is active cooperation with the Council of Europe Office in Armenia.
According to the head of parliament, during these years, Armenia has continuously fulfilled the commitments assumed by the membership of the organization, and in that direction, Armenia has also made considerable progress conditioned by the support of the organization.
Mirzoyan added that as a result of the non-violent, velvet, democratic revolution that took place in 2018, Armenia took an essential step for the protection of human rights and democracy and rule of law.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, Christos Giakoumopoulos attached importance to the effective cooperation and joint programs being implemented with Armenia over the past years.
Noting that there is significant progress in human rights protection in Armenia, Christos Giakoumopoulos expressed willingness for cooperation and assistance in the implementation of the reforms.
Touching upon the programs implemented within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia, the recorded results, as well as the issues concerning the new Action Plan, the head of parliament reaffirmed that Armenia will be consistent with the full and complete implementation of the Second Action Plan, and rather voluminous and in-depth reforms are envisaged in this stage.
