On 7 March, Head of the Department of Defense Policies at the Ministry of Defense Levon Ayvazyan and Director for Euro-Atlantic Security at the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom Nick Gurr co-chaired the annual bilateral military-political consultations at the administrative complex of Armenia’s Ministry of Defense, reports the news service of the Ministry of Defense, according to NEWS.am.

The main topics of the discussions were regional and international security issues and the Armenian-British cooperation in the defense sector.

Levon Ayvazyan presented the main areas of Armenia’s defense policy and the priorities for the development of the armed forces, as well as the current state of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The British party reaffirmed the UK’s position on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, that is, the UK fully supports the process of negotiations unfolding within the scope of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The activities completed in 2018 in the sphere of bilateral cooperation were summed up during the meeting.

Within the scope of the military-political consultations, the delegation of the UK Ministry of Defense, accompanied by UK Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Armenia Judith Farnworth, was received by Armenia’s Minister of Defense Davit Tonoyan.

The results of the consultations were summed up and issues on regional security were discussed during the meeting. The minister also provided details about the humanitarian mission in Syria.

The meeting ended with the signing of the 2019 bilateral cooperation program of the Armenian and UK Ministries of Defense in the defense sector.
