On 3 April, during the official visit to Addis Ababa, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a meeting with President of Ethiopia Sahle-Work Zewde.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan congratulated Sahle-Work Zewde on being appointed President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and wished her success in her important mission. Mnatsakanyan also congratulated Ethiopia on successfully becoming a member of the UN Security Council.

The interlocutors exchanged views on the perspectives for deepening and enriching the bilateral agenda and stated the undertaking of programs for promoting cooperation over the IT and digital agenda as a priority direction.

Armenia’s foreign minister emphasized that expansion of the relations with countries of Africa, including Ethiopia is one of the key priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy and that Armenia is willing to take practical steps to use the existing potential more effectively. In this context, the parties also stressed the need to take steps aimed at expanding the legal-contractual field.

The Ethiopian president and Armenia’s foreign minister particularly highlighted the role that the small, yet active Armenian community of Ethiopia plays in society and politics of Ethiopia.

Minister Mnatsakanyan presented the interior political developments in Armenia and the broad agenda for reforms being implemented by the government.

Minister Mnatsakanyan attached importance to the expansion of women’s participation in public and political life in Armenia and Ethiopia and, with satisfaction, highlighted the fact that the Republic of Armenia has approved the 2019-2021 National Action Plan for Implementation of the stipulations of Resolution 1325 of the United Nations Security Council on women, peace and security.

At the request of the Ethiopian president, Armenia’s foreign minister presented the latest developments of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. The interlocutors shared the view that there is no alternative to the peaceful settlement of conflicts.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on several pressing issues on the international agenda.
