On 5 April, during the official visit to Kigali, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Rwanda Donatille Mukabalisa. As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia told Armenian News-NEWS.am, Minister Mnatsakanyan emphasized Armenia’s commitment to enhance sector-specific cooperation with African countries and, in this sense, he attached great importance to international organizations, particularly the International Organization of La Francophonie.

With satisfaction, the parties mentioned that there is good potential to bring the geographically distant nations closer to each other and, in this context, importance was attached to the need for intensification of parliamentary diplomacy and reciprocal visits between Armenia and Rwanda.

Presenting the changes that took place in Armenia as a result of the velvet revolution and the developments that followed, Minister Mnatsakanyan highlighted the fact that the government’s reforms being implemented on the basis of the broad mandate given by the people aim to strengthen democracy and create equal opportunities in the economic sector in Armenia.

Touching upon the actions aimed at preventing genocides and crimes against humanity, Minister Mnatsakanyan stated that Armenia, as a responsible member of the international community, will continue to consistently advance the genocide prevention agenda. The interlocutors stressed the importance of the joint efforts of Armenia and Rwanda at the international levels.

Donatille Mukabalisa welcomed and highly appreciated Zohrab Mnatsakanyan’s participation in the events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide.
