The US Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen, resigned, the US President Donald Trump tweeted.

“...I am pleased to announce that Kevin McAleenan, the current U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, will become Acting Secretary for @DHSgov. I have confidence that Kevin will do a great job!” He added.

Nielsen became Minister at the end of 2017. Rumors about her resignation went for a long time. The press has repeatedly written that Trump is unhappy with Nielsen’s efforts to combat illegal migration.

Kelly left the administration at the end of 2018.

The media also reported that Trump was unhappy that Nielsen supported the candidacy of Ronald Vitiello for the post of head of the immigration and customs police (ICE). Trump withdrew Vitiello’s candidacy before being approved by the Senate.
