YEREVAN. – On the margins of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Qatar, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, on Sunday met with IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong.
Mirzoyan presented to Chungong the results of the snap parliamentary election in Armenia last December, and its high evaluation from international observers, the NA informed Armenian News-NEWS.am. Also, he expressed confidence that the new Armenian parliament will be more actively involved in the activities of IPU.
Chungong, for his part, expressed a view that the Armenian MPs’ presence at IPU assists in refreshing democracy in the world.
The interlocutors discussed cooperation as well as matters of mutual interest. In addition, they agreed to organize a workshop on women’s political engagement, in the near future in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, and under the aegis of IPU.
Furthermore, the speaker of Armenia’s legislature handed to the IPU Secretary General a letter expressing the readiness to follow the general precepts for supporting parliaments.
