YEREVAN. – While in Rwanda, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on Sunday attended the official ceremony devoted to the 25th anniversary of Rwandan genocide.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am that on April 5, Mnatsakanyan participated in the Kwibuka25 international conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of this genocide.

Adama Dieng, Special Advisor to the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, delivered a special address at the conference. At the beginning of his remarks, Dieng welcomed Zohrab Mnatsakanyan as the FM of Armenia which is the chairing country at the La Francophonie Summit. Also, he underscored the holding—last December in Yerevan—of the Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide.

On the sidelines of Kwibuka25, the FM of Armenia met with Dieng. They discussed the necessity of strengthening legal norms and mechanisms on genocide prevention within the frames of the UN, and the important role of education and remembrance in this context.
