On 8 April, representatives of the Armenia-Finland Parliamentary Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia met with Ambassador of Finland to Armenia Arya Makkonen.

As the news service of the National Assembly told Armenian News-NEWS.am, the head of the parliamentary friendship group Gevorg Gorgisyan attached importance to the study of the rich experience of Finland in regard to democracy and parliamentary traditions. Gorgisyan added that it was necessary to hold days of Finland in Armenia in order to enhance and deepen the friendly ties and considered the organizing of business forums for the creation of a platform for cooperation between Finnish and Armenian businessmen a necessity.

Finland’s ambassador to Armenia congratulated the Armenian people on holding fair and transparent parliamentary elections and also considered the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation necessary. The ambassador informed that a friendship group with Armenia would be established following the April 14 parliamentary elections in Finland. Touching upon ratification of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement by the Parliament of Finland, Makkonen assured that it would soon be signed by the country’s president and would be ratified after the elections.

From the perspective of the deepening of bilateral ties and the creation of new paths for cooperation, the parties also attached importance to the reciprocal visits of the parliamentarians of both countries.

At the guest’s request, Gevorg Gorgisyan presented the key priorities on Armenia’s agenda following the revolution, particularly the fight against corruption and economic reforms.
