A new day has been opened before Armenia, US Congresswoman Jackie Speier stated speaking at the Armenian Genocide commemoration evening that was held at the Congress, the Voice of America Armenian Service reported.
Speier, whose mother was Armenian, added that she is also going to send a letter to President Donald Trump calling on to recognize Armenian Genocide. The congresswoman expressed a conviction that the US is simply obligated to recognize the first genocide of the 20th century.
In his remarks, Congressmen Adam Schiff, who is the co-author of a new Armenian Genocide Resolution, noted, in particular, that the recognition of Armenian Genocide is an ethical imperative. He added that the policy of genocide denial has brought about violence and loss of human lives in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh), too.
As per Congressman Brad Sherman, Armenian Genocide is a historical fact, and its recognition is indispensable also for Turkey, which in this case would become a completely different country.
And Congressman Pallone, who also serves as co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, for his part, reflected on the Velvet Revolution in Armenia, and stated that it should be valued by the US.
