The Istanbul Convention poses a threat to the national identity of Armenians. This is what lawyer Armine Fanyan told journalists today.

According to her, there are many terms that are distorted in the Convention, including the term ‘family unity’, and representatives of the LGBT community may be recognized as potential cells of a family.

“The Convention states that the circles of victims that need to have special protection may be expanded, and if women say that they feel like a man or the opposite, the public has to accept this. As far as protection of a person is concerned, by law, nobody shall be exposed to discrimination under any principle, including sexual orientation. This is the reason why there is no sense in ratifying the Convention,” she stated.
