The meeting of Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Foreign Ministers scheduled for March 25 was put off, Interfax reports referring to a source at the Russian Foreign Ministry.

“The trilateral meeting was scheduled for March 25. However, the date was not convenient for one of the sides. For this reason, the meeting did not take place and was put off,” a Russian diplomat told Interfax.

As reported earlier, on March 10, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov did not rule out a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.

“Several ministerial meetings may be held on recommendation of the presidents,” he said. Azerbaijani FM stressed regular meeting will be most likely held at the initiative of the Russian side. According to him, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has voiced such a proposal.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier, on March 5, Presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia Serzh Sargsyan, Ilham Aliyev an Dmitry Medvedev met in Sochi.

On March 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Robert Bradtke (U.S.), Bernard Fassier (France) and Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk. The mediators have recenetly visited the region.

“Russia is hopeful there will be no incidents in the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Nagorno-Karabakh armed forces in the future,” Alexander Lukashevich, a representative of the Russian foreign ministry said on March 24.

The sides are interested in continuation of dialogue, prevention of incidents, rejection of violence and drawing up a common formula for resolution of the conflict, he noted.

“We have recently intensified our work with Yerevan and Baku,” he said stressing importance of meetings between Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Sochi. He stressed that the reached agreement will be basis for further acceleration in talks.
