The residents of Archis rural community in Tavush Province of Armenia have again closed off the Bagatashen-Alaverdi interstate highway since early Monday morning, and they demand that the water issue of their village be resolved.

Archis has been included in the Ayrum enlarged community.

Ayrum town mayor Arayik Paranyan noted that the Archis villagers are disenchanted and expect a quick solution to their water problem.

“The [water] sources that supply the village have dried up,” he said. “People are taking water from here and there with their own cars.”

In Paranyan’s words, the Lori-Berd-Noyemberyan water line passes from under this village.

“A [water] pump has to be built there, first of all,” he added. “The water pressure isn’t enough.”

According to the mayor, this matter has been referred to the government.

“They are making calculations,” he added. “They are discussing [it].”

Earlier, the residents of Archis had again blocked the Bagatashen-Alaverdi interstate highway. But, subsequently, they had ended their protest because the Tavush provincial hall had informed them that they were dealing with the matter and will resolve it.
