Economists established the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to assess the economic situation of any country. This is what Armenia’s former Minister of Agriculture Artur Khachatryan wrote on his Facebook page.
“Many economists don’t like the GDP because it doesn’t address the inclusivity of growth (i.e. if in any country a group of people become wealthy and a larger group becomes poor, the GDP will show economic growth, but as a result, there will be more poverty-stricken people than enriched people). However, there is no better indicator yet, and progressive mankind is guided by the GDP.
In Armenia, the government talks about the economic activity indicator. Brother, if you want to assess economic growth, assess the GDP growth, not the economic activity indicator,” he wrote.
