Taking into account the several comments and misreading about the procedures and customs duties for importing cars from third countries to Armenia recently, we would like to make some clarifications. This is what Spokesperson of the Ministry of Economy of Armenia Anna Ohanyan wrote on her Facebook page. She wrote the following:
“1. To fulfill the commitments that the Russian Federation has assumed before the World Trade Organization, the rates of customs duties for certain commodities, including several passenger cars have changed (dropped) upon the decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission dated May 28, 2019.
2. The decision was promulgated on May 31, 2019, and the rates prescribed by this decision entered into force on September 1, 2019, but the specified provisions will be in effect for Armenia starting from January 1, 2020, taking into consideration the fact that the customs duty rates for import lower than the common customs tariffs of the Eurasian Economic Union applied in the transitional period will be in effect for passenger cars under code 8703 EAEU FEACN until January 1, 2020.
3. At the same time, according to the decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission dated December 20, 2017, starting from January 1, 2020, the customs duties and taxes will be levied in the form of collective customs fee for Armenia during import of passenger cars (under code 8703 EAEU FEACN) into the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union.
4. It should be mentioned that, within the scope of the Eurasian Economic Union, decisions are adopted upon consent of all Member States and, when adopted, they are posted on the official website of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
5. We remind that, through the negotiations with the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union, Armenia has obtained the right to maintain the customs duty rate (10%) for passenger cars (under code 8703 EAEU FEACN) for a five-year term, and this is significantly lower than the common tariffs of the Eurasian Economic Union,” wrote the Spokesperson.
