The growth of wine production and export was recorded this year, the director of the Viticulture and Winemaking Fund of Armenia Zaruhi Muradyan told reporters on Thursday.
According to her, wine production amounted to 4.6 million liters in the first quarter of 2019, and exports amounted to 1.3 million liters, which is 200 thousand liters more than in the same period last year.
“This year, grape production increased by 320 ha. It is important that it aims to create an organically pure product. The market also expands, which includes Canada, Poland, the Netherlands. Next year the geography is expected to be expanded to five more countries,” she said.
Advisor to the mayor of Ashtarak Artur Voskanyan added that interest in the Aragatsotn province is growing, including due to wine tourism.
“It is important that this also contributes to the creation of new jobs, and over the past 2 years, 10 new business projects have been implemented in the province. It is gratifying that 57 new applications have already been submitted this year,” he concluded.
As reported earlier, the first wine festival will be held in Armenia’s Ashtarak on September 7.
