The Yerevan Jur CJSC has submitted a new drinking water tariff to the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission – 175 AMD per cubic meter against the previous 181 AMD for consumers, Gagik Margaryan, Commercial Director, Yerevan Jur CJSC, told journalists April 1.

The water price is to be reduced under a concession, and the company has lodged a relevant application with the Regulatory Commission.

The new tariff is possible due to reduced water-supply and energy costs in Yerevan. If approved by the Commission, it will take effect this July – likely on July 8. The Commission may change the tariff.

The average water-supply time is 22 hours in Yerevan now against 17.7 hours in 2007.

The water losses are still causing damage to the company. “Our surveys show water losses exceeding 50% in the consumer network not operated by the Yerevan Jur CJSC, and low-quality water-meters prevent accurate registration of water consumption,” Margaryan said.

Necessary legislative and practical control would improve the water supply system management, he said.

Last year, the water price was raised up to 195 AMD per cubic meter. However, the Yerevan Municipality’s subsidies allowed the water price for consumers to be reduced down to 181 AMD.
