YEREVAN. - Two opposition forces, the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and the Heritage party still have potential for cooperation, Styepa Safaryan, Chairman of the parliamentary group of Heritage party, told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Safaryan disagreed with the ANC member David Shahnazaryan’s statement that the Heritage party is rather in opposition to the ANC.

“If we recall which media outlets have been discrediting the Heritage party since 2009, it will become clear, which political force ‘burns bridges behind it’. It was the ANC that has constantly accused Heritage of not being serious,” Safaryan added. “Those, who reply to their critic, are accused. All of us, and the ANC on the first place, have to stop it.”

The chairman of the parliamentary group of Heritage party also replied to ANC Coordinator Levon Zurabyan’s remark, who called Safaryan “a Baron Munchausen.”

“All my words are true. Those, who are unable to refute my statement, resort to personal insults,” Safaryan added. “I will reply by the following: Zurabyan’s wife, Shogher Matevosyan publishes her personal dreams in her newspaper Chorrord Ishkhanutyun (The Fourth Estate), while Zurabyan himself reads adventure novels and then makes political statements.”

ANC members recently had a conflict on Facebook with Heritage party followers. The ANC supporters claimed that members of the Heritage parliamentary group were not present at the opposition demonstration at monument to Myasnikyan on March 1, 2008, and the MP Armen Martirosyan was not injured, as it was previously reported. In response, Styepa Safaryan said that he met with ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan on March 1, 2008, and Ter-Petrosyan noted that the people that gathered near the monument to Myasnikyan on March 1, 2008, were "not my [Ter-Pertosyan’s] people."
