YEREVAN. - Power is considered a natural disaster in Armenia, said Armenian MP, head of the ARF Dashnaktsutyun at discussions organized on Wednesday by Armenia Civilitas Foundation.

Asked about politicians who want to distance themselves from their former colleagues, Vahan Hovhannisyan stressed the main problem is people’s attitude to power in general. The ARFD member noted there is a tendency not to meet demands of the leadership by evading military service and non-payment of taxes. Hovhannisyan said that the ARF Dashnaktsutyun is neither hiding nor ashamed of being a part of ruling coalition in the past.

“It can be considered an experience,” Hovhannisyan said adding that it is easier to try to correct mistakes and solve problems being closer to power.

Talking about successful projects, he pointed out amendments to country’s legislation.

The MP deems those who are trying to distance themselves from being in power, are speaking different things nowadays. However, this does not refer to the representatives of ARFD. Hovhannisyan intends to publish a collection of statements made by his party colleagues on various issues in different periods, to avoid any doubts.

“You will see there are no changes in our position. Difference may be observed in details,” said Hovhannisyan.

ARFD joined the ruling coalition from 1998 to 2009 but then left the ruling camp in protest against attempts of Armenia-Turkey reconciliation.
