Human Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan has addressed the Prosecutor General with the proposal to consider the application of an alternative measure with respect to detention of former chief of staff of the National Assembly Arsen Babayan. This is what Arman Tatoyan told journalists in parliament today. The Human Rights Defender still hasn’t received a response from the Prosecutor General, writes Aravot.

Arman Tatoyan is also aware that Human Rights Defender of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) Artak Beglaryan and human rights activist Avetik Ishkhanyan have submitted recommendations to change Arsen Babayan’s preventive measure. Arman Tatoyan personally visited Arsen Babayan after he was remanded. Before that, when Arsen Babayan was under arrest, the operational reaction group of the Human Rights Defender had visited Arsen Babayan after an alarm sounded by Arsen Babayan’s attorney. After Arsen Babayan was remanded, Arman Tatoyan and the employees of the Office of the Human Rights Defender visited Arsen Babayan at their own initiatives. “If law-enforcement authorities can’t bear the burden and show, this can imply additional privations,” says Arman Tatoyan. Tatoyan said the criminal cases instituted in regard to the President of the Constitutional Court and different developments concerning the latter are also being monitored. “The law-enforcement authorities need to be precautious because we are dealing with the country’s Constitutional Court,” he said.
