YEREVAN. - Vardan Bostanjyan, a Parliament member of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), has commended President Serzh Sargsyan for his foreign policy and steps to strengthen security.
At an April 7 press conference, he pointed out that during his three-year presidency Serzh Sargsyan succeeded in the areas that immediately concern the President`s activities, such as foreign policy and national security. Armenia`s national security is invulnerable, Bostanjyan said.
As regard incidents on the line of contact with the Azerbaijani armed forces, Bostanjyan said the reason for them is "Baku`s nervous steps." However, the incidents do not at all mean Armenia is vulnerable in terms of security.
As regards the economic situation in Armenia, and the President`s statement on the need for changes, Bostanjyan said that it is the real state of affairs that necessitated the President`s demands. We have problems to resolve, and the question is if the people in charge of the process are able to resolve them. As to why the problems have been remembered now, Bostanjyan pointed out an "incubation period" for identifying the problems, especially because there were hindrances, particularly the March 1, 2008 events. On the other hand, Bostanjyan is sure that, irrespective of the development priorities, the people must first of all be afforded opportunities to earn their living and ensure their well-being. Commenting of the social demands made by the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC), Bostanjyan said they are "good", their aim being to improve the situation in the country.
At a March conference, President Serzh Sargsyan pointed out that the Armenian people would feel positive changes in the economy this May-June.
