YEREVAN. - Developments in Arab world cannot be considered as a single event, believes Armenian political expert.

Director of the Caucasus Media Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said uprising in Egypt is of social character and is stipulated by growing wheat prices and cessation of bread subsidies. As to Yemen, unrests are caused by long-standing confrontation between North and South. In Bahrain dispute arose between the Sunni elite and Shiite majority. Tunisian unrests broke out due to the development level of the country and close ties with the European neighbors, while a tribal war continues in Libya.

“The only thing that unites these developments is a common information space: Al Jazeera TV channel,” said Iskandaryan. “In fact, all events going on in Arab states differ. It is impossible to call all of them revolutions or social revolts. Some states are pro-American, while others are anti-American, one is rich, while another is poor and isolated.”

In Armenia these events are presented as struggle against ruling regime. The expert believes, Armenian public should be interested in consequences of the developments in Arab world, rather than in the events themselves.

“This region is close to us. Changes in its structure, role of states, stability ratio is very important for Armenia,” mentioned the expert.

One thing is clear the Arab world is definitely too far from democracy, he concluded.
