Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan today received Charge d’Affaires of the United Kingdom in Armenia David Moran, reports the news service of the National Assembly.

Ararat Mirzoyan stated that the relations between Armenia and Great Britain are growing dynamically and informed about the developments unfolding in Armenia, emphasizing the fact that Armenia is steadily taking the path to democratic reforms following the velvet revolution that took place in 2018. He added that this also concerns the fight against corruption, human rights protection, judicial and legal reforms, the creation of a competitive market, the creation of a necessary investment climate and all the other directions.

He also set aside the “Modern Parliament for Modern Armenia” Program for which Armenia has the support of both the Kingdom of Sweden and the United Kingdom. In the whole context of the relations between Armenia and the United Kingdom, he also set aside interparliamentary ties and attached importance to the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, expressing hope that the relations between the two countries will proceed through the course of this Agreement, regardless of how the relations between Great Britain and the European Union will develop.

Ararat Mirzoyan also attached importance to Great Britain’s balanced position on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and asserted once again that the new authorities of Armenia stay true to the peace talks and see the solution to the issue only through this path.

In his turn, David Moran attached importance to the parliamentary cooperation and the close work of the friendship groups. He assured that he would work actively on the implementation of new programs and expressed hope that they would lead to a positive outcome. The newly appointed diplomat expressed his willingness to support Armenia in all directions of democratic reforms.
