YEREVAN. - Tough assessments of political processes in Armenia included in the U.S. State Department report do not contribute to the development of democracy in the republic, MP from ruling Republican Party of Armenia Gagik Melikyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Those, who do not to notice democratic progress in Armenia, are biased, MP believes.

“The report says certain violations were detected during elections. Is there a country where violations do not take place?” Melikyan said. “Violations are detected everywhere but the crucial point there is positive dynamics in Armenia. Reforms in Electoral Code have been already made. Besides the document says media lacks diversity of opinion. I believe this accusation is unfair. Statements of the opposition activists have been recently broadcasted on TV.”

The Human Rights Report issued by U.S. State Department mentions freedom of speech is not always respected by the authorities and the elections are rigged.
