The Union of Veterans of the Karabakh War has issued a statement condemning police officers’ actions against peaceful demonstrators.
The statement reads as follows:
“Guided by the interests arising from the imperative of having a nation state, the Union of Veterans of the Karabakh War is closely following the actions of the young Armenians fighting for mandatory teaching of the subject “History of the Armenian Church” in schools and the mandatory teaching of the subjects “Armenian Language” and “Armenian History” in universities and supports them.
Yesterday, on December 3, the young Armenians gathered near the building of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport with the hope to meet with the minister, but several police officers used violence and apprehended several young people.
The Union of Veterans of the Karabakh War condemns the actions of the police officers. We regret to state the fact that this incident showed that the police of Armenia today aren’t serving the law and are applying inadequate measures against demonstrators, that is, brutality. We urge to refrain from behaving such way and committing such actions. Be alert and don’t act in such a way to make freedom fighters come out to the streets and stand next to the patriotic youth.”
