The Upper Lars checkpoint located on the Russian-Georgian border is closed, said representatives of the Russian emergency situations ministry.
“The road is currently closed due to heavy snowfall at the request of the Georgian side,” Yulia Starchenko said.
The Upper Lars is the only Armenia’s overland commercial rout to Russia. It was reopened after three years’ break on March 1, 2010 under the mediation of Swiss Embassy. Around 7,000 people, 50 buses and 500 vehicles cross the checkpoint every day.
