YEREVAN. - Yerevan and Hrazdan cities may be left without water supply due to Hrazdan mine development, says the statement issued by Ecolur NGO.

Chinese Fortune Oil company has acquired right to develop iron ore field. According to preliminary information, Hrazdan mine will be exploited by opencast techniques.

Ecolur says sources of drinking water are located in 600-700 meters from the mine.

 “Either we will be deprived of drinking water, or it will be polluted with toxic metals,” says Karine Danielyan, who represents For Sustainable Human Development association.

Representatives of Chinese company assure field development will be held in accordance with the standards of ecological security.
