The Court of Cassation of Armenia today ruled to grant the appeal of the Prosecutor General of Armenia regarding the case of Smbat Ayvazyan and rendered a decision to overturn and commute the judicial act of the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of 19 November 2008 and the judicial act of the Criminal Court of Appeal of 27 January 2009 and to acquit Smbat Ayvazyan in the acts ascribed to him, reports Advisor to the Prosecutor General Gor Abrahamyan.

Based on the judicial acts of 2008 and 2009, Ayvazyan was guilty of the illegally carrying of gas weapons, cold steel or throwing weapons and of violence or threat of violence, not dangerous for life or health, against a representative of authorities or close relatives, concerned with performance of his or her official duties, as well as hindrance to the representative of authorities in the execution of duties under law, and was sentenced to a penalty in the amount of three hundred-fold of the minimum salary and imprisonment for a term of two years.
